Welcome to a celebration of California Native Americans. As in the past, this year's event is divided into three parts. The first event is an engaging teachers conference on Thursday, September 20 held at the San Manuel Tribal Government offices. The second is the week long California Indian Cultural Awareness Conference, designed specifically for students and teachers. The second is a free, open-to-the-public California Native American Day celebration on Friday, September 28 from 6pm until 9pm. Both these events take place at California State University San Bernardino. Complete details follow.
With great excitement and in anticipation of another outstanding event, we invite you to attend the 19th annual California Indian Cultural Awareness Conference. The previous years have proven that this conference is a valuable tool that brings educators and students together in a festive learning environment. Students and educators alike will discover the over one hundred of Indian tribes that call California home and learn about their shared history. This will help promote an awareness and appreciation for all cultures including that of California's Native Americans.
This year's activities are scheduled for San Bernardino City public schools are Tuesday through Thursday (September 25-27 and private schools Monday September 24 and Friday, September 28, 2018. In order to attend this free event, schools will need to provide transportation to and from California State University, San Bernardino. Activities for all students begin at 9:30 a.m. Buses should drop the students off at the designated stop identified in your packet, where a staff person will greet them.
Since each day's activities are scheduled to last through noon, we encourage all students to bring a sack lunch. Water will be provided.
To ensure that everyone benefits from each session, lecture and hands-on demonstration, the room capacity is 50 students. Please keep this number in mind when scheduling for your school. Docents will be available to help chaperone.
If you are public school teacher in the San Bernardino City Schools please contact Cindra Weber firstname.lastname@example.org or 909-473-2076. If you are a teacher from a private school or a public school outside of San Bernardino City School District please fax your completed registration form to CSUSB coordinator Tamara Holder (909)-537-7524 or contact her at email@example.com. Due to the tremendous response we have received in the previous years, space is limited and reservations for this weeklong conference are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be sure to identify which day of the week you will attend so that proper arrangements can be made.
If your school is unable to attend this conference, you can still take part. Simply call the San Manuel Office of Public Affairs at 909-864-8933 to discuss other programs, resources, and/or materials that you can use to help your students celebrate this state-recognized event and extend the sharing of California Indian history into the classroom.
